Read More	The Carroll Times - Carroll, Iowa - June 24 1915 On Wednesday morning, June 16, 1915, a gloom of sadness was cast over the entire community to the neighbors, the many friends and relatives when it was learned that Mr. Christian Loeffelholz had departed from this life at 8 a.m. at his home near Mt. Carmel, Iowa, after a lingering illness for more than a year. All that medical aid and loving hands could do was done for his relief but it was to no avail. Mr. Christian Loeffelholz was born the 25th day of April, 1840, in Heuthen Kr. Heillgenstadt Relgb. Erfurt. Prov. Sachsen, Germany. Having completed the years of his schooling he helped his father on the farm, and after the death of his father, having already lost his mother through death In infancy, was employed as hired help on various farms till the year 1864, then leaving his home making a journey through various places of the country, Bayern, Wuertemberg and the beautiful Rhein, Elsasz Lothringen. On the 31st day of October, 1865, he bade farewell to his beloved country to brothers and sisters, friends and relatives and set sail for America arriving at New York, January 1st, 1866. However his ambition was for the west leaving New York he came to Covington, Kentucky, and Cincinnati, Ohio, where he accepted a position as a hired help on a farm. Having made friendship with many during the year, he with some of his friends the following year again set out for the northwest and came to New Vienna, Iowa, where he found employment In a Woolen factory and in a brewery. In the year 1869 he came to Kniest Township, Carroll County, Iowa, where he bought a farm, returning however, to New Vienna, Iowa, to take a position as clerk in a store. But the following year the 26th day of April, 1870, he bade farewell to his many friends there and left-New Vienna and came to Carroll County to take up work on the farm he had bought, on which he lived till his death. He was the first one to have the banns of matrimony published In the St. Mary's church, Mt. Carmel, Iowa, where he was united in marriage to Miss Margareth Wilkens on the 15th day of June, 1870. In this happy union he lived for 45 years and 1 day, until his death separated them. Out of this happy union thirteen children were born, seven girls and six boys, of which seven preceded him in death. Those living are: "Rev." Bernard', Assistant pastor at Breda; Mary, John, Frank and Theresia, at home, and Joseph, of Maple River. Besides his beloved wife and children who wore all present at the time of his death, lie leaves a host of friends and distant relatives to mourn his death. All his brothers and sisters preceded him in death. The funeral services were held Saturday morning, June 19, at 8:30 at St. Mary's church, Mt. Carmel, Iowa, and after the solemn requiem mass which was sung by Rev. Bernard Loeffelholz, his son assisted by Rev. George Wessling, of Coon Rapids, as Deacon, Rev. August Meyer, of Maple River, as Sub-deacon, Rev. John Berger, of Gransville, as Master of Ceremonies, Theol. Jos. Underberg, as Turifer, the remains were laid to rest In the Catholic cemetery. He was a member of the R. C. M. P. Society and of St. Joseph Men's Society of Mt. Carmel of which a large number attended the services In a body in honor of their deceased member. The pall bearers were: Henry Becker, Herman Wuebker, Anton Kokenge, Nick Wernimont, Joseph Vonnahme and Chas. Rettenmaier.
