At the age of 14, in 1879, Christian left Germany for America finding employment in Jones County, Iowa then moving on to Plymouth County, Iowa then Coleridge, Nebraska. Moving back to Iowa to Struble, Iowa and finally settling in Sioux County, Iowa where started his own farm and where he met and married Frauke Friedrichs on March 4, 1890.
