E. Walter Lindgren was in charge of the last rites. Burial was made in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. Christian M. Christenson was born in Lolland, Denmark, Dec. 31, 1868, a son of Hans and Karen Mogenson-Christenson. In August of 1881, at the age of 13, he accompanied his parents, sisters and brothers to the States. The family came directly to Britt, Iowa, having friends here that had come before them. The parents purchased the farm now owned by Jens Jensen. The family witnessed all the hardships of those early days. The sons worked out wherever employment could be had to aid in the support of the family. Cattle had to be herded on the prairies. Chris obtained employment with a man near Forest City who had a large herd of feeding cattle. Mr. Christenson also worked at hay pressing, doing a lot of that kind of work in the Stilson vicinity until the industry faded out in the late nineties. After Mr. Christenson married Clara Nelson, early in the century, of the north Britt vicinity he went to farming one-half mile south of the parental home. In February of 1916, Mrs. Christenson died and a week later their infant son died. On August 22, 1917, Mr. Christenson married Mrs. Maggie Truitt. The family continued to live on the farm. About eight years ago Mr. and Mrs. Christenson retired to a home in Britt. For many years Mr. Christenson raised purebred Poland China hogs and became widely known among hog raisers. Mr. Christenson was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of Britt. In the early years he united with the Baptist church, the services being held north of Britt. Surviving the passing of this early settler are his wife of Britt; three children by his first marriage: Urban Christenson, Britt; Mrs. Harvey (Evelyn) Hanson, Forest City, and Albert Christenson, Silverton, Ore. One daughter by the second marriage: Miss Deloris Christenson, R. N., Mason City. Another daughter Carol Christenson died at the age of 18. There are two step daughters: Mrs. Emil (Evelyn) Kyhl, and Mrs. Elmer (Delphine) Pigman both of Britt. Eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive, as well as one brother, A. O. Christenson, and two sisters, Mrs. Jens Jenson and Mrs. Albert Sonerholm, all of Britt. The parents and three brothers, Pete, Martin and Theodore, all preceded him in death.
