Description	:	ROANOKE--Christian O. "Chris" Graft, 84, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Covington Manor in Fort Wayne. He graduated from Ossian High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a mechanic at International Harvester/Navistar, retiring in 1982. He was a life member of Roanoke American Legion Post #160, where he served as Post Commander and on the color guard. He was an American Legion 5th district officer and member of Sons of the Legion committee. He was also a life member of Waynedale DAV and raised greyhounds and coonhounds. He graduated from Ossian High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a mechanic at International Harvester/Navistar, retiring in 1982. He was a life member of Roanoke American Legion Post #160, where he served as Post Commander and on the color guard. Chris was born June 8, 1927 in Toscin, IN, the son of Christian and Meta (McGlynn) Graft. On May 8, 1948, he married his beloved wife of 63 years, Virginia Eyanson, in Van Wert, OH, and she survives in Roanoke. Also surviving are two daughters, Bev (John) Kelley of Muncie, and Linda Graft of Chicago; six grandchildren, Jeff and Gary Vannatta, Doug, Kyle and Michael Graft, and Natalie Fisher; and a sister, Loretta Hunnicut of Warren. He was preceded in death by three sons, Terry, Chris, and Jim Graft; three brothers, Walt, Al and Ed Graft; and two sisters, Rosemary Graft and Alma Weaver. Visitation will be held 2-8 p.m. Friday at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Russell Buzzard officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery with Roanoke American Legion Post #160 providing military graveside honors.
