Description	:	Chris and Minnie came with their parents to the U.S.A. in 1887 from Odessa. In 1908 they were married at Fairfax, South Dakota. In 1913 the couple immigrated to Canada and settled on a farm near Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. However, drought and grasshoppers brought farm- ing almost to a standstill. There were no crop, the country school was closed for two years. It was here, however, that the oldest boy, Ben, completed his education. Dad decided that we must leave in order to se- cure a better education for the family. This was one of his priorities and so he arranged for two freight cars and we arrived in Rimbey in 1925. Then we moved to N.W.15-42-2-W5. This quarter was south of the Rimbey elevators and so we at- tended the old red brick school in Rimbey. We stayed.on this farm for only a year because it had been taken over by quack-grass and it was impossi- ble with the equipment of those days to conquer. Still, Mother and Dad were undaunted. Once again they moved, this time it was to the Chapel district where they rented the Frank Veal farm. My sister, Ruth, was born there. Then came the dirty thirties. Dad took out a homestead in the Blindman River District and here they lived until they were forced to retire because of poor health in 1948. In 1948 "Chris and Minnie" celebrated their Golden Wedding. Their bridesmaid, Emma Cole, helped celebrate this occasion as well as their eight children, twenty-three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Irene Wright and Melba Oden- bach sang a duet and Ruth Frank read a poem in their honor. Ida Hamilton presided at the guest book. The cake which graced the table had been made by their daughter Helen and their oldest granddaughter Gladys Johnson. Rev. O. Dyer asked the blessing. Chris passed away in 1962 and Minnie in '63.
