Description	:	Christian is likely buried on the west side of the rear center section of the cemetery. He married Rhoda Hess and judging by the 1964 book of cemetery inscriptions is buried near his in-laws, John & Sarah Hess. He came from Germany . The 1860 census shows him in Dayton, Ohio. In 1864 he married Rhoda Hess in Darke County. Rhoda's family was among the first pioneers in Franklin Township. The 1870 & 1880 censuses list him as a blacksmith. In 1864 he married Rhoda Hess in Darke County. Rhoda's family was among the first pioneers in Franklin Township. The 1870 & 1880 censuses list him as a blacksmith. He lived 1.25 miles east of the cemetery in the village of Painter Creek. See the posted village map. Painter Creek had been platted out just a few years prior to that 1875 map and had at least two blacksmith (BS) shops. Christian died a month after his 8th child was born. Subsequent newspaper articles mention Rhoda contending with an insurance company, selling her home & furnishings in Painter Creek and moving a few miles NE to the Red River community. Then in 1892 there is mention of her and her youngest son visiting Painter Creek from Muncie, Indiana; she apparently remarried as her name was listed as Rhoda Poock Shepherd. Note that Rhoda's sister Sarah Hess Penny is shown as the owner of Christian & Rhoda's Painter Creek house on the later 1888 map of Painter Creek.
