CHRISTINA SCHOCK OF JAVA Many sorrowing relatives and friends attended funeral services held here Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Christina Schock who passed away last Thursday morning, April 20. Services took place at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran church in Java, following a short service at the home, with Reverend George Kirchdoerfer officiating. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery. Christina Schock nee Hindemith was born December 05, 1864, at Hoffnungsthal, Bessarabia, Roumania, where she was baptized a few days later. After receiving thorough instruction in the Word of God, she was confirmed on May 01, 1879, at Kloestitz. Ten years later, in 1889, she was married at Kloestitz to Leonhardt Horst. In 1889 they immigrated to the United States and settled on a homestead, six miles northeast of Java. In about 1920, she and her husband retired from farm life and moved to Java, where Mr. Horst passed away in 1928. In 1929, she was united in marriage with George Schock, who passed away in 1934. Her health has been failing gradually during the last few years. A few weeks ago she became ill and was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas Goetz, northwest of Java. On April 13, she suffered a stroke, which left her partially paralyzed and very weak. She succumbed a week later, on April 20, at 10 a.m. Cause of death was apoplexy. She had reached the age of 74 years, four months and 15 days. Mrs. Schock was a woman of humble ways and simple piety. Her kindly and hospitable nature won her many sincere friends. She is survived by a son-in-law and daughter, Charles and Magdalena Goetz. Mrs. Goetz who was a relative of Mrs. Schock, was adopted by her and Mr. Horst at the age of one year and nine months. Others who are left to mourn her are, nine grandchildren; two sisters, Rosa (Gottlieb) Preszler of gackle, North Dakota, and Philippina (J) Wiedeman, residing in Argentina, South America; and one brother, Adam Hindemith, residing in Caucasia, Russia.
