The deceased, Mrs. Christine Maria Meier was born April 22, 1872, A.D. at Meggerdorf, Prov Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. On March 22, 1892 she was united in holy matrimony with Mr. Hans Meier at Bouton, Dallas county, Iowa. This union was blessed with four children of which one died. The deceased lady emigrated 1891 to this country and resided in Jackson county, Iowa, and from there she moved to Bouton where she has since resided. About ten years ago she suffered with child bed fever, which also was the cause of her lamented death. She was a faithful member of the German Evangelical Lutheran church, at Bouton, and we hope that she passed away in true faith on Jesus Christ, our redeemer. Last Thursday, October 22, at three o'clock p.m. , our gracious God relieved her from all earthy care and suffering. Her age at the time of her death was 27 years, 6 months and three days. She left to mourn her loss her dear husband, three beloved children, her father in Germany, three brothers, two sisters, seven brothers–in laws, six sisters-in-laws, and other relative. The remains were laid to rest in Peoples Township cemetery. ## Immigration passenger list records suggest Christine and her younger brother, Jurgen, traveled to America together, although they are separated on the passenger list (she is Passenger 143 and he is Passenger 165). On 20 March 1891, when they arrived in New York City, she was a month shy of her 19th birthday and Jurgen had just turned 17. The siblings departed Hamburg aboard the SS Moravia with just 1 piece of baggage each. Their accommodations were steerage, as it was for most of the 400-plus other passengers on that voyage.
