Johnson, for nearly half a century, a resident of this community, passed away at her home west of Lyons, Monday, October 26, at the age of 86 years. The funeral services were held from the home, Thursday afternoon, October 29, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. A.B. Pearson, pastor of the First Lutheran church of Oakland in charge. Interment was made in the Lyons Cemetery. Christine Matilda Nelson was born June 21, 1856 at Jetterum, Hjorthed, Socken, Smaland, Sweden [sic], and passed away at her home southwest of Lyons, October 26, 1942 at the age of 86 years, four months and five days. She had been in failing health for the past six years but was only confined to her bed for two days. Death was due to a heart attack. About 19 years ago she suffered a fall and since that time she was unable to walk and was tenderly cared for by her daughter, Ethel, and other members of her family. Despite of the injury she maintained a cheerful disposition and never complained. She loved to have company, and the members of her family and friends and neighbors were always given a warm handclasp when they came into the home. She spent her early life in Sweden and attended school in her native land. She came to this country when a young woman and was united in marriage to Frank Oscar Johnson at West Point, Nebraska, July 14, 1882. To this union five sons and five daughters were born, Mrs. Floyd Redding of Lyons, Carl at home, Sakel of Lyons, Ethel at home, Mrs. Alvin Barton of Wayne, Nebr., and Mrs. Louis Poeschl of Lyons. One brother, Frank Osberg of Wausa, Nebr. and 15 grandchildren also survive. Her husband, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. With the exception of one year which was spent at Oakland, all of the time she lived in America was spent at the home place. She was a member of the First Lutheran church and until she became an invalid was a regular attendant.
