Description	:	Christina Gerlach Sweely. Born 1811 in Baden-Wuerttemburg. Arrived in Colonial America per sailing ship in 1826 as per noted in Pennsylvania Folk Life,Rhineland Emigrants, with her parents Barbara and Jacob Gerlach. They settled in Hepburn,Lycomming,Pennsylvania. Christina at 21 years old meets Joseph Sweeley and in 2/1/1832 they marry. There was an article in the Lycomming Gazette announcing their marriage. They migrate to Illinois 1847 with two children. In 1850 per census they have 5 children 16-3 years. In 1852 Joseph her husband dies. By 1860 shes living with her oldest daughter Susan Sweeley Redfern her husband John and children. Her youngest daughter Rose is 12. It is now just before the civil war. All the men in the family are gone to war, including her son Michael barely 17. In May of 1870 they are all still in Medina Peiora, Illinois. Everyone in the family from sisters,husbands,wives, extended family get their homestead papers from being in active service in the Civil War. 180 acres each to start a new life in Exeter ,Fillmore, Nebraska. Christina remains with Susan until 1880 when she moves in with her son Michael's family. She lives there until her death in 1884. She is buried in the Exeter Cemetery with an inscription on the back of John and Susan Redfern's headstone. Being that they died several years after her I don't know for sure if that is the correct location of her gravesite or not. All the Redfern, Ryan and Sweeley graves are together at the same area in the cemetery.
