Description	:	Christine Bennett, daughter of Lennie Joe and Vashti Esther Williams Bennett, was born on June 10, 1923, in Keltner, Kentucky. She was a remarkably beautiful, and crushingly poor, young woman. Her own mother had died when she was about 6 years old. Her father was a known rambler, and was often unemployed. When she was only 16 years old, and six months pregnant, she married William A Turner on February 22, 1940, in Columbia, Kentucky. He was seven years older. Read More	Christine Bennett, daughter of Lennie Joe and Vashti Esther Williams Bennett, was born on June 10, 1923, in Keltner, Kentucky. She was a remarkably beautiful, and crushingly poor, young woman. Her own mother had died when she was about 6 years old. Her father was a known rambler, and was often unemployed. When she was only 16 years old, and six months pregnant, she married William A Turner on February 22, 1940, in Columbia, Kentucky. He was seven years older. By all accounts, William rarely, if ever, held a job. Christina had three children during their marriage, but only the eldest, Nancy, survived more than a few days. Her youngest son, James, died in March of 1944. Christina was brought to Louisville, Kentucky, by her aunt Susie and her family, so they could try to take care of her. She was hospitalized soon after her arrival in Louisville, but died of TB as a young mother on September 28, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 21. Her body was returned to Ozark, Kentucky, by train, and she was buried in what would become the Lander Bryant Cemetery. Befitting her short and tragic life, there is no marker for her grave. Her four year old daughter, Nancy, was raised by her aunt Susie.
