Description	:	Christine Peelman McKenzie, 94, of Indianapolis, formerly of Vevay, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove. She was born March 21, 1917, in Carroll County, Ky., the daughter of Amie Ernest and Mary Etta Hussong Peelman. She grew up on her parents' farms, and after she and Dwight McKenzie were married Jan. 12, 1934, they worked on his parents' farm until 1938 while his parents ran the county poor farm. Read More	Christine Peelman McKenzie, 94, of Indianapolis, formerly of Vevay, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove. She was born March 21, 1917, in Carroll County, Ky., the daughter of Amie Ernest and Mary Etta Hussong Peelman. She grew up on her parents' farms, and after she and Dwight McKenzie were married Jan. 12, 1934, they worked on his parents' farm until 1938 while his parents ran the county poor farm. They lived on Jack Allen's farm on Long Run until January 1944 when they and their 7-year-old son moved to Vevay about four months before the birth of their second son. They lived in Vevay until 2002. She had lived at the Altenheim Community, a health care facility in Indianapolis, since 2002. She graduated from eighth grade at "Tater Bug" Elementary School and attended Vevay High School for two years, where she was on the girls basketball team both years. She was one of the first 22 employees at the Vevay shoe factory when in opened in 1947, and was the last surviving of them. She retired in 1977. After retiring, she took care of children in her home full-time until 1998. In the early years of their marriage, she and her husband enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and board games, and puzzles. Later in life, they enjoyed riding their bicycles around Vevay and stopping to visit with friends. They attended many sporting events when their sons were in school. She was a member of Switzerland Baptist Church, where she loved taking care of babies in the nursery and serving dinners at the church. She also loved to send greeting cards accompanied by religious tracts to loved ones. She is survived by two sons, Jerry McKenzie of Dayton, Ohio, and Darrel McKenzie of Martinez, Ga.; one brother, Amie Junior Peelman of Vevay; four grandsons; five great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Feb. 4, 2005; her parents; and five brothers, Floyd "Jack" Peelman, Lester "Doddie" Peelman, William Russell "Bill" Peelman, Theodore "Pat" Peelman and Cogley Peelman, who died at birth. The funeral was at Switzerland Baptist Church. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery. Madison Courier 3/3/12
