Description	:	Christoph Dargel was born January 27, 1841, at Bockel, Hanover, Germany, where he was baptized, educated and confirmed in the Lutheran church. In 1865 he came to America and settled at Reedsburg, Sauk county, Wisconsin. Here he remained for a number of years. In the meantime, however, he returned to Germany, in order to be united in holy wedlock with his bride, Sophie nee VonderOhe. About a year... Read More	Christoph Dargel was born January 27, 1841, at Bockel, Hanover, Germany, where he was baptized, educated and confirmed in the Lutheran church. In 1865 he came to America and settled at Reedsburg, Sauk county, Wisconsin. Here he remained for a number of years. In the meantime, however, he returned to Germany, in order to be united in holy wedlock with his bride, Sophie nee VonderOhe. The ceremony was performed on the first day of October 1872 and very shortly thereafter the deceased with his youing wife sailed back to America and established a home in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. About a year later, however, he moved to Seward county of this state, where he took up farming in the proximity of his late home. He at once became a member of Immanuel Lutheran church of Middle Creek. Later, when St. John's Lutheran church of Seward, Nebraska was organized, he had his membership transferred to St. John's church and thus became one of its charter members. Since 1908 the deceased has been a member in good standing of Zion Lutheran church in Garland. Mr. Dargel was the father of six children, to-wit: Julius, Mrs. Alwina Zimmermann, Henry, who died about 23 years ago, Otto, William and Fred of Council Bluffs, Iowa. In the spring of 1921 the deceased took sick. He recovered, however, but his recovery was only temporary. Being 80 years old the ills and weaknesses common to old age came upon him and caused him finally to be invalid. His constitution became less resistant as the months and weeks and days had passed by and finally gave away to the blows of oncoming death, which occurred on the 23rd day of February, 1925, at the high age of 84 years and 26 days. The funeral was held on the following Friday afternoon. After a brief service at the late home of the deceased, the body was taken to Zion Lutheran church of Garland, where his pastor, Rev. T. Joeckel preached the funeral sermon, both in the German and English language. Interment was made in the North cemetery at Seward. Mr. Dargel leaves to mourn his death his widow, five children, thirteen grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends. Seward Journal, Seward, NE, Thurs, March 5, 1925
