Read More	AGED PIONEERS PASS AWAY CHRISTOPHER HARTTER DIES AN ADVANCED AGE Christopher Hartter died at his home in Washington township, on Tuesday morning, at the ripe old age of eighty eight years. Mr. Hartter had been a resident of Plymouth counly for the past twenty-seven years and was well and favorably known especially among the old settlers. For the past few years since he retired from active work, he had been practically an invalid and he and his aged helpmate lived with their son, Andrew Hartter. Christopher Fredrich Hartter was a native of Germany having, been born in the province of Wurtemberg on June 6, 1822. At the age of twenty four years he left bis native land and came to New York. From there he worked his way westward to Chicago and while a resident of that place was employed in the construction of the Chicago and Galena railroad until its completion. During the war he enlisted in the Fourth Illinois infantry and served during the latter part of the civil strife. He was married to Miss Margaret Young, at Lacon, Ill, who survives her aged husband Mrs. Hartter was stricken with blindness about four years ago. The decedent was the father of five children, four of whom are living, one son George, having preceded his father to the spirit land. The surviving children are Mrs. Louis Fricke, of North Dakota, and Mrs. Ferdinand Rees, of Ocheyedan, John Hartter and Andrew Hartter, of Washington township. The funeral was held yesterday at the home in Washington township, Rev. J. J. Vollmar, of St. John's Lutheran church conducting the services, and the interment made in the city cemetery here. Mr. Hartter was an upright citizen who enjoyed the respect of the community where he lived so long and was a loving husband and father and a good neighbor. By industry and frugality, he accumulated a fair competency and died possessed of a considerable fortune.
