Helland in Modalen, Buskerud, Norway, a small village 90 kilometers from Bergen, Norway. He was christened August 10, 1903 in Norway. His mother, Anna, died on January 27, 1907 at only 27-years-old. His father then married a second wife, Inga Almelidnes, in 1914. He had three siblings: Agnes Kristina Farestveit, Brita Farestveit, and Olav Farestveit and 2 half siblings: Johannes Farestveit and Malvin Farestveit. Kostvedt, age 27 and Bertha M. (Christopherson) Fostvedt, age 21 were married on November 2, 1929 in Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, South Dakota, USA by Rev. N. Boe, Clergyman. Christ and Bertha lived in Beresford, Union County, South Dakota at the time of the 1930 US Census. He immigrated in 1921 and was an “alien” in 1930 (meaning he was not naturalized as a citizen of the United States). He was a laborer in a rendering plant. Christ and Bertha were renting their home. Their son Christopher Luvern "Louie" Fostvedt was born August 18, 1930 in South Dakota. Their son Belmer Oliver Fostvedt was born August 2, 1932 in Hudson, Union, South Dakota. Their son Dale E. Fostvedt was born March 13, 1935 in South Dakota. Chris and family lived on a farm in Rural, Lincoln County and by 1940 were living at 622 E. Maple in Canton, Lincoln County, South Dakota with their children, Luvern Fostvedt, age 9; Belmer Fostvedt, age 7; and Dale Fostvedt, age 5.
