AGED RETIRED FARMER ENDS LIFE WITH SHOTGUN Victim's Failing Health Belived to Have Been the Cause of His Rash Act The Christofer Johnson home at 335 West Fifth street became the scene of a pitiabel tragedy Monday afternoon, when Mr. Johnson, a man almost seventy-six years of age, stepped into the barn on the premises, placed the muzzle of a shotgun against his heart, and touched off the trigger with his toe. Sometime later his widow and Mrs. Zacharias Olsen, a neighbor and friend of the family, found the lifeless body. Failing health is thought to have been the cause of the rash act. So carefully were the facts of the tragedy guarded that is was not generally known to have been a suicide until the day after the tragedy occured. The deceased was a retired farmer who had operateda farm on the Bluffs six and half miles north of this city for more than thirty years. He retired to Fremont five years ago. Beside the aggrieved widow, with whom the deceased celebrated his golden wedding anniversary a year ago last July, five grown children surrive him, namely; Mrs. J. C. Jensen, Plainview; Andrew of Fremont; Theodore of Rowling; Louis of California, and Mrs. Albert Christensen of Winslow. The deceased was a native of Denmark where he was born January 26, 1850. He emigrated to the United States in 1871, settling first in Wisconsin, where for several years he served the Northwestern Railroad company as a yardmaster in the yards at Milwaukee. It was in that city that he and his wife were married on July 5, 1874. They came to reside in Dodge County, Nebraska, in 1887.
