Description	:	Son of James Moffat and Catherine Menzies. The Moffat families came from Scotland. Christopher's parents both died young, leaving a young family of two boys and four girls. Because of rheumatism, Christompher went to California in 1893 and got complete relief. Christopher's parents both died young, leaving a young family of two boys and four girls. Because of rheumatism, Christompher went to California in 1893 and got complete relief. In California he worked on a wheat farm, one of a crew of three, operating a combine pulled by 26 horses and mules. It was later that he worked on a fruit ranch as teamster. Four years later he returned to Ontario and prepared to come west to farm. He and his brother Jim came out in 1899. A cousin, Jack Moffat, had come west earlier as a surveyor and had taken land. Christopher and Jim both took up land east of Innisfail at the head of Knee Hill Valley, where they built and house and broke a few acres. They returned to Ontario in the fall, married, and prepared to come out with their settlers effects to take on an environment that would and did break many a man. Jim, his wife Flora, and their 3 children had it tough. They put in four crops and never threshed a bushel. They packed up and went back to Ontario. The next year, 1905, was better and gave Christopher heart to stay with it. Christopher served many years on the school board and the municipal council. He raised many fine horses and cattle. He won top prizes at the Calgary, Milnerton, and Innisfail fairs with his sheep. He served on the Milnerton and Innisfail fair boards. There were nin children born to Chris and Ida: Harold b. abt 1901 - farmed until retirement Annie John Alexander (Alex) b. Jun 3, 1904 in Knee Hill Valley, Alberta d. Jan 29, 1971 in Vancouver, B.C. Married Lila Eleanor Tulari Apr 13, 1930 in North Vancouver. Menzie - farmed until retirement Wilfred Kenneth b. abt 1914, married Gertrude Hooper Irene, married 1. Raymond Bennett 2. Virgil Flake Robert, became a teacher. Served overseas as reinforcement for the Loyal Edmonton Regiment serving first in Italy. Later he joined the First Special Services Force, a Commando unit, and served in France and Germany. He held the rank of Lieutenant. After his discharge he went to Seattle and married there. Ralph, worked on the farm until joining the Army. He served as tank driver in the Sherbrooke Fusiliers, a regiment that served in every major engagement the Canadian Army founght in on the western front.
