Description	:	Christopher Rohrer Whitmore (the name was also spelled Whitmer and Whitmon)was born 9 March 1817,in President Twp., Venango County, PA and moved to Cherry Grove Illinois in 1866. Whitmore,like many people who made the western migration was looking for more land to farm and support his ever growing family (by the 1870 census he had 11 living children). On June 18, 1858 Christopher married Charlotte Caroline Keener (3/2/1830 – 3/27/1907) after the untimely death of his first wife Mary Kieler (1820-1857) the previous year. In approximately 1870, Christopher Whitmore bought property in the relatively new town of Shannon, Illinois. Here he prospered. In 1878, according to the Carroll County Herald (April 1, 1878 p.3), C.R. Whitmore owned Shannon lots 8 & 9 and was assessed $13.69 per annum. Just prior to 1880 Christopher now 63 and Charlotte Caroline Whitmore now 50 and seven of their children (Chesterfield 23, Jessie 21, Ella 19, Anzoinetta 10, Jacob 10 ,David 7 and Henry 4 moved to Junction Twp. Iowa where they continued to make their living as farmers. They later moved to Central City Nebraska where they again took up farming. Christopher and Charlotte are both buried in the Central City Cemetery,Christopher R. Whitmore died July 11, 1895 at Central City Nebraska.
