His age was 72 years, 9 months and three days. He was born in Lebanon county, Pennsylvania. Some years later he moved with his parents to Illinois. In 1852 he went to California where he met and married Miss Mary Ellen Bailey in 1861 and they lived there eighteen years, then coming to Cherokee. His age was 72 years, 9 months and three days. He was born in Lebanon county, Pennsylvania. Some years later he moved with his parents to Illinois. In 1852 he went to California where he met and married Miss Mary Ellen Bailey in 1861 and they lived there eighteen years, then coming to Cherokee. His wife and ten children survive him, also four brothers. Mr. Winters was a good citizen and an indulgent husband and father. He has been identified here with some of our best firms as tinner and salesman. He was quiet in his ways and honest in his dealings with all men. During the last month of his life he turned his whole attention to his spiritual welfare, and eagerly sought to know what he could do to atone for his past years of neglect. He expressed himself as prepared for the change. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church by Rev. W.T. Freeland, and the remains were laid to rest in the Cherokee cemetery. ****************** Note: The last name is spelled both Winter and Winters in the obit.
