She had been ill for several months. The funeral will be held Sunday at 2:00 o’clock from the family residence, Rev. George D. Crissman officiating, and the remains laid to rest in the west section of Linwood Park cemetery. An obituary will be given next week. ****** Boone County Democrat March 20, 1913 Chubbie S. Nelson, daughter of W.J.W. and Sarah E. Nelson, was born in Boone county, May 20, 1871. In the year of 1881 her parents moved to a farm two miles east of Mackey. Here the subject of our sketch grew to womanhood. She obtained her education in the country and in the Boone schools. Her vocation to the time of her marriage was school teaching, in which she was very successful. In 1896, with her parents removed to Jefferson, Iowa, April 16th, in same year she was united in marriage to Edgar Mackey, of Boone. They settled on a farm near Mackey where they resided until three years ago, Mr. Mackey retired from farming and moved to Boone where they lived until her death. To this union was born one daughter, Gladys, aged fifteen. While Mrs. Mackey had not enjoyed the best of health for many years, her sickness did not take a serious turn until about a year ago, from which time her health rapidly failed. The best medical skill was consulted, but nothing could be done and she peacefully passed away Thursday morning, March 13th, at 5:00 o’clock. While the family knew she was in a critical condition, did not realize the end was so near. Her parents died four years ago, the mother passed away just two weeks after the father. Besides the husband and daughter, the deceased leaves to mourn her loss five brothers and four sister, J.T. Nelson Ames, Iowa; W.L. Nelson, Boone, Roscoe B. and Frank G. Nelson Mackey, Samuel E. Omaha, Mrs. Sophia W. Hargrave, Elk City, Oklahoma; Mrs. Eva Rambo, Greencastle, Indiana; Mrs. Cora Sebring and Mrs. Jennie Mackey, Boone, besides a host of relatives and friends. With the exception of two sisters at a distance, all the brothers and sisters were present at the funeral. The funeral services were held from the late home, 2104 Greene street, Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, services in charge of Rev. Geo. D. Crissman of the First M.E. church who spoke comforting words to the family, relatives and friends that gathered to pay their last respects to the departed. Rev. Crissman spoke of the noble character and useful life she lived, her influence for good will live on. The music was beautifully rendered by Mrs. Lizzie Dale, accompanied by Mrs. Chas. Osgood, both cousins of Mrs. Mackey. The selections were “Jesus Lover of My Soul,: “O, Think of the Home Over There,” and “The Home of the Soul.” The pallbearers were the five brothers and one nephew, Leslie Mackey. She was laid to rest in Linwood Park cemetery beside her parents. Mrs. Mackey united with the M.E. church when sixteen years old, from which time she lived a devoted christen life. When circumstances permitted she was found in church and Sunday school, she was a woman of strong, noble character, who always stood for right and principle, a kind and loving wife, mother and sister. Her friends were numbered by scores. To know her was to love her. She was of a quiet disposition devoted to home and family by her, by her, their welfare was always considered first. She was patient, bore her suffering without a murmur. The “Lord’s will, not mine be done,” was her daily prayer. A vacant place in the home which never can be filled, and time only will heal the broken hearts. Our loss is her eternal gain. The bereaved family have the deepest sympathy of a host of friends and relatives. The floral offerings were rare and beautiful.
