Description	:	FRANCISCO ~ Mr. Cicero Thomas Shelton, 90, a man who truly loved his family of N.C. Highway 89 West, Westfield, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at his home in Francisco. He was born Jan. 3, 1917, in Stokes County, to the late Elmer Edison and Josie Simmons Shelton. Mr. Shelton was the retired owner and operator of Cicero's Grocery in Francisco. Highway 89 West, Westfield, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at his home in Francisco. He was born Jan. 3, 1917, in Stokes County, to the late Elmer Edison and Josie Simmons Shelton. Mr. Shelton was the retired owner and operator of Cicero's Grocery in Francisco. He also retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and was a farmer all of his life. Mr. Shelton served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He served with the 42ND Portable Surgical Unit in the Burma-China-India Campaign, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Presidential Unit Emblem, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Combat Medical Badge, Chinese Service Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button and World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Shelton loved hunting and he raised and hunted his own bird and rabbit dogs. He was a member of Francisco Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife and partner of 60 years, Betty Lou Smith Shelton of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Doris S. and Phillip Jessup of Westfield; four grandchildren, Thomas and wife, Pam Sands, Lyndsey and husband, Darrin Haywood, Mark and wife, Erin Jessup and Austin Jessup; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Sands, Makayla Sands, Kristin Sands, Jacob Haywood and Troy Haywood; a brother, John Shelton of Westfield; and a special nephew, Wallace Shelton. Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn S. Sands and a brother, Bruno Shelton. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at Francisco Presbyterian Church, by the Revs. Rickey Rogers and Terry Collins. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Francisco Presbyterian Church from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, Dec. 31, and at other times at the Shelton home, N.C. Highway 89, West Westfield. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stokes County, P.O. Box 10, Danbury, NC 27016; Westfield Baptist Church Playground Fund, 6713 Westfield Road, Westfield, NC 27053; or to a charity of your choice.
