Long, 63, at the Methodist Church, Friday Clair H. Long, a beloved citizen of our community, passed away at his home in Renwick on October 29, 1941. He had been battling a prolonged illness for many weeks. Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church with Rev. E. D. Hart preaching the sermon. Burial was made at Elmwood cemetery. Mr. Long was born at Beloit, Kansas, in 1878. At the age of 9 years, he moved with his parents to near Tipton, Iowa in Cedar County. In 1896, he moved to a farm near Renwick and the remainder of his life was spent in this community. In 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Millie Phipps. To this union were born two children, Dr. Walter H. Long of Renwick and Grace E. Long also of Renwick but teaching for the past several years in Excelsior Consolidated school near Lake Park, Iowa. After farming for many years, Mr. Long moved with his family to Renwick because of failing health. During these 19 years of residence in town, he has almost continuously been afflicted with poor health. He entered the hospital at Iowa City last June and remained six weeks for treatment. After coming home his health until health improved sufficiently so that he was able to walk up town occasionally and he remained hopeful that good health would ultimately be restored. However, about three weeks ago, his strength began to diminish noticeably, resulting in his decease Wednesday morning of last week. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and two children and two grandchildren; also one brother, R. F. Long of Kansas City, Mo. And six sisters, Mrs. Florence Plumley of Kansas City, Mrs. Edna Gillespie of Renwick, Mrs. Nellie Johnson of Yates Center, Kansas and Mrs. Ethel Davidson of Kansas City, and Mrs. Vera Brown, living in Indiana; and many nieces and nephews and more distant relatives. The only relatives from a distance who were able to be here for the funeral service were his sister, Mrs. Johnson and her daughter, Mrs. Robert Gregg of Kansas City. Mr. Long had a life-long love for music. As a young man, he joined the band at Goldfield. After his conversion under the ministry of Rev. J. C. Harvey, he joined the Goldfield Methodist church and majored in his love for music by singing in the choir. After transferring his membership to the Renwick Methodist church, he was for many years a faithful member of the choir. A host of friends extend their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. H. Long, 63, who died at his home there following a long illness. Mr. Long had resided in the Renwick community for 45 years, being engaged in farming until several years ago, when the family moved into town. Surviving are his wife and a son and daughter, Dr. W. H. Long, Renwick dentist, and Miss Grace, a teacher in the Lake Park schools. Also surviving are a brother and six sisters.
