Gardner, widow of Harvey Gardner, committed suicide by hanging at the family home in the edge of Belmont, near East Tilton, this morning. Her little grandson, who slept with her in a room on the first floor, woke just after daylight, and, missing his grandmother, found her hanging by a cord from a portiere pole in the sitting room adjoining. The child's screams brought the other members of the family downstairs, and the body was cut down by Fred Gardner, a son of the deceased. Mrs Gardner's husband committed suicide by hanging in the barn Sept 17, 1899, which was also Sunday. He went out ostensibly to do some chores, and was found in a short time dead. Since her husband's death Mrs Gardner had been despondent, and her physician had feared Insanity. Without doubt her sorrow was the direct cause of her []. She was about 43, and is survived by one daughter, Miss Maude Gardner, and one son, Fred Gardner, both of Belmont. --Boston Daily Globe, 02 Apr 1900.
