Bruno, Aug. 4 – Mrs. Clara Kriz died at her home in Bruno on Thursday afternoon, July 31, after an illness of five weeks due to the infirmities of old age. Had she lived until August 3 she would have completed the 87th year of her life. Funeral services were held on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock from the home to St. Anthony's church, Rev. Father Bauer saying the Requiem Mass. The members of the Holy Rosary society attended in a body and acted as honorary escort. The pallbearers were six young grandsons of the deceased, Albin, Anton, Raymond, Emil, Frank and Alfred Kriz. Interment was in the National cemetery at Linwood, beside the grave of Mrs. Kriz's husband. Clara Divis was Mrs. Kriz's maiden name. She was born in Hrotovice, Moravia, in Czech-Slovakia, on August 3, 1843. She married Jacob Kriz in her native country she and her husband emigrating to the United States some years later, in 1873, with their children. For the 57 years since then Mrs. Kriz had resided in Butler county, the original farm home being 2½ miles northeast of Linwood. When Mr. and Mrs. Kriz retired from farm life about 25 years ago, they moved to Bruno. Mr. Kriz died in the spring of 1914 and since that time Mrs. Kriz lived alone. She moved to Linwood some time ago where she made her home for about a year, but moved back to Bruno last winter. Mr. and Mrs. Kriz were the parents of twelve sons and two daughters, of whom five sons Jacob, Paul, Frank, James and James, and oen daughter, Katie preceded their mother in death. The surviving children are John of Brainard, Mrs. Mary Blatny of Bruno, Charles of Loma, Anton of Linwood, Joseph of Brainard, Frank of Winner. S. S. Dak., Louis of Bee and Paul of Omaha, all of whom, with their wives, excepting Mrs. Frank Kriz of Winner, S. Dak., were present at the funeral. Mrs. Kriz was a woman of exceptionally fine character, a kind and cheerful friend and neighbor, highly respected and much loved by al who knew her. She was capable and independent and almost to the last she looked after her household affairs, garden and chickens from choice, though her children were always ready and willing to help her. The funeral was very largely attended by relatives and friends and there were numerous beautiful floral offerings. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved. Among those coming to the funeral from a distance were A. R. Blatny and daughter, Eunice, Mrs. Mary Bartos and Mrs. Antonia Vitamvas of Omaha and Mrs. Homer Maxson and Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Roh of Valparaiso.
