Clara Grace Vogelzang, daughter of John and Dora (Haarsma) Vogelzang, was born on June 13, 1911, in Sioux County, IA. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1930, at then attended college at Sioux Falls College, Wayne, NE, and Dakota Wesleyan. She began her career as a teacher in Sioux County, IA. Grace was united in marriage with Layfe Warner on December 15, 1941, in Elk Point, SD. The couple moved to Canton, SD, where Clara worked as a substitute teacher. While in Canton she helped her husband at the Council Oak Store. The couple moved to Mitchell, SD where Grace substituted at rural schools until retiring in 1960. Layfe passed away on August 12, 1989. In 1996 Grace moved to Sioux Falls and lived at Trail Ridge Retirement Community. Grace was a member of the North Ridge Baptist Church in Mitchell, SD, and was also a past member of the Baptist Church in Hawarden, IA, and Canton, SD. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, and travelling by bus on tours. Grateful for having shared her life are her niece Eloise Vogelzang, Sioux Falls, SD; great-nephews Michael Vogelzang, Sioux Falls, SD, Steven Vogelzang, Sioux City, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Grace was preceded in death by her husband Layfe; brothers Johnny, Clarence, Francis, and Dick Vogelzang; sisters Dora Warner, Gertie Otten and her husband Mike; niece Elaine Vogelzang; and nephew Clarence "Richard" Vogelzang. In lieu of flowers, Grace requests that memorials be directed to the Union Gospel Mission. Visitation with the family present will be from 4 to 6 pm on Friday, November 13, 2015, at the Miller Funeral Home West Side Chapel, 6200 West 41st Street. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden, IA with a memorial service to be held at 1:30 pm at the Miller Funeral Home West Side Chapel.
