Clara was born on Aug. 20, 1909, in Nanton, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of the late Alonso and May (Wilfred) Varney. St. Luise, 87, a longtime Othello resident, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at the Othello Community Hospital. Clara was born on Aug. 20, 1909, in Nanton, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of the late Alonso and May (Wilfred) Varney. She moved to Chelan in 1916, where she was raised and educated and in 1929 received her citizenship. Clara married A. Ban St. Luise in Seattle on Nov. 14, 1933. They moved to Othello in 1952. While living in Othello, she served on the Othello City Council for 14 years, was a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Order of Amaranth, and was a founding member of the Othello Rodeo Association. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Angelo and Darleen St. Luise of Port Angeles, and Michael Varney and Patricia St. Luise of Wenatchee; one sister, Alice Waddell, Chelan; seven grandchildren, Shelly Glick of Jacksonville, Fla., Mark St. Luise of Anchorage, Alaska, Sandra St. Luise of San Diego, Calif., Cindy St. Luise of Arlington, Trisha Stender of Camano Island, and Gary St. Luise II and Amber St. Luise, both of Port Angeles; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Ban St. Luise on Jan. 19, 1968.
