Feb 1, 1928 - Carroll Times - Mrs. George H. Wilkins died at her home, 109 North West street, Friday morning, January 27, at 2 o'clock, from au acute attack of heart trouble. She awakened her husband a short time before her death and told him she was suffering from a smothering feeling, which she would try to relieve by going to the porch to get air. He called a doctor, although she thought it unnecessary. While he was getting in touch with the doctor over the telephone, Mrs. Wilkins collapsed. He carried her inside the house, where she died about ten minutes later. Mrs. Wilkins had a similar attack a few weeks ago. The death of Mrs. Wilkins comes as a decided shock to the husband and family of 14 children. The oldest 23 years and the youngest a little girl 2 years old. Mrs. Wilkins was Miss Clara Hendricks before her marriage and was born in New York state, November 23, 1884. Her father died about a year ago and her mother is making her home at the St. Anthony hospital. Miss Hendricks was married at the S.S. Peter and Paul church, this city, October 21, 1902, to George H Wilkins. They have since made their home in Carroll except for a few years spent on a farm. Fifteen children were born to them, the oldest, Frances, died in 1916 when about 12 years old. The surviving children are: Joe, Mrs. Emma Piper, William, George, John, Clara, Leonard, Viola, Raymond, Arthur, Robert, Walter, Edward, and Dorothy. Mrs. Wilkins was a very pleasant capable woman and a devout Christian. She was a member of the S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic church and was regular in her attendance. She was a splendid home keeper and kept her house spotlessly clean. Although a busy woman, she was never too busy or tired to give the children the attention, they required and made home a happy place for them. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to this family who is deprived of the love of the mother. Funeral services were held at the S.S. Peter and Pauls church Monday morning at 9 o'clock and interment was made in the Catholic cemetery.
