Read More	Obituary (edited to remove potential living survivors) Brown County Newspaper--11 October 1973 On Wednesday, September 26, 1973, just as the new day was dawning, the spirit of Clara Iona Gast was swept away to that eternal home where her suffering is no more. She was one of seven children born to James and Mary Swearingen Hile, on August 21, 1910. Her entire life was spent in Adams and Brown Counties. On November 21, 1929, she was married to Richard Gast. To them, there were born six sons: James of Georgetown, Ohio; Omar, of South Webster, O.; Donald of Russellville, O.; Alan of near Winchester, O.; Frances, who died at the age of 20 months and Ronald, who preceded his mother in death just 8 months ago. She accepted the teachings and beliefs of the Church of Christ at Liberty several years ago, was a faithful attendant whenever health permitted and lived the faith, with her trust in God, her entire life. The Gasts enjoyed a busy farm life until June 2, 1963, when Mr. Gast was called by the Master. Mrs. Gast and Alan then moved to Russellville. In 1966, she was stricken with paralysis, from which she never fuly recovered. After her release from the hospital, she was tenderly cared for by Ronnie and Sue, Jim and Joyce until she was able to go to her own home. She bore her handicap with tolerance and patience and never wanted to burden anyone. Her chief interest and joys were her church, her family and her flowers. The sudden and unexpected passing of Ronnie was a terrific blow to her frail condition, although his companion has been as devoted to her care and visits as if she were her own. Mrs. Gast leaves to mourn her passing three sisters, three brothers. She leaves four sons and five daughters-in-laws. Contributor: Beverly Dunn (46946819)
