Description	:	She was an outstanding student at Limestone College in Gaffney, and, though her principal interest was in mathematics, she excelled in athletics as well. The 1931 annual of Limestone (The 1931 Calciid) has this to say about her: "Clara Tinsley, of Spartanburg, S.C., gives her multiplied mathematics concrete expression -- particularly in athletics. She made herself conspicuous her freshman year in baseball and basketball." She was also a member of the Griffith Literary Society, serving as Secretary for the year 1929-1930, and served also in the Lodge Historical Club in 1929-1931. In her senior year, she... In her senior year, she was a member of the Y. W. A. Cabinet, the President's Club, President of the Athletic Association, served on the Student Government Association, was a member of the Swimming Club, and was Physical Education Assistant. One activity of the Senior Class of 1931 was to label various seniors with appropriate mythological titles or names. In this competition, Clara was given the label of Diana, signifying excellence in athletics. Most of her life was spent in the Greer area, near Pleasant Grove Baptist Church; she taught math in high school. At her passing, she was survived by a daughter (Phoebe Rebecca Johnson Langford), a son (Thomas Tinsley Johnson), two brothers, six sisters, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
