Quailey Heads Impressive Service In Historic St. Mary's In historic St. Mary's Church, where so many Lancaster young women have spoken their wedding vows, Miss Isabelle O'Gara, daughter of Mr. Joseph S. O'Gara, 305 E. Walnut Hill, and the late Grace Brandt O'Gara, became the bride of Mr. Charles V. Hammack, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hammack of Cold Spring Hill, Tuesday morning, August 16. Early morning sunlight, falling through stained glass windows which flank the high altar, blending with the soft light from tall tapers in onyx and gold holders, cast a glow over the wedding party. Palms banked the chancel rail and sprays of gladioli in vivid shades added charm to the decorations. The bride who was given in marriage by her father, was met at the altar by the bridegroom and Mr. F. Neil Thimmes, who attended him as best man. Leading the bridal party were the ushers, Mr. Walter Knapp and Mr. Howard Zorn, Columbus, who were followed by the bridesmaids, Miss Patricia Ewing, and Miss Rebecca Thacker, both of Dayton, who walked singly. Immediately preceding the bride was her lovely young sister, Miss Julia O'Gara, her maid of honor…. She was born in Lancaster, Ohio, and was a design consultant for Lesler's Design. Survivors include her daughters, Carol Yavno of Santee and Julie Gorton of Jamul; son, Michael Hammack of El Cajon; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services: pending. OBITUARY Lancaster Eagle-Gazette, Lancaster, Fairfield County, Ohio, January 13, 2008 Charlie and Isabelle Hammack Charlie Hammack, 93, and Isabelle Hammack, 92, together 70 years, have gone home. Isabelle passed away on Dec. 20 and Charlie passed away Jan. 2. They were born, raised and married in Lancaster. A U.S. Army veteran, Charlie served in the Medical Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. He received a Battlefield Commission and was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart. He had a 29-year career with the J.C. Penney Co. The family lived in Lafayette and Frankfort, Ind., and Ft. Mitchell, Kan., before moving to San Diego in 1961. Charlie was a well-known businessman in San Diego and a lifetime member of the Elks Club. Isabelle worked as a design consultant for Lessler's Design in San Diego and volunteered for the Red Cross. She was well known for her gourmet cooking. Friends looked forward to receiving her annual Christmas cookie gift package. She created beautiful knit and needlepoint hand work and donated hundreds of colorful hand knit scarves and scores of crocheted lace angels for cancer patients. They loved their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and are survived by daughters, Carol Yavno (Mike) of Santee and Julie Gorton (Gary) of Jamul; son, Dr. Michael Hammack (Mary) of El Cajon; seven grandchildren, Bill and Michael Yavno, Jennifer, David and Chris Hammack and Greg and Nicole Gorton; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Mia Isabel Moreno. Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Knapp Hammack; father, Robert Lincoln Hammack; sisters, Gertrude Spires, Helen Hogan and Marie Pizzato; and brother, Robert Hammack. Isabelle was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Lavina Brandt O'Gara; father, Joseph Sylvester O'Gara; and sisters, Mary Jane Weiland and Julia Maccracken. Services are pending.
