The cause of her death was ptomaine poisoning.” (Orleans County Monitor, 12/10/1919) "Miss Clara L. Dwinell was born in Glover, June 20, 1884, the daughter of Dwight J. and Julia L. (Merriam) Dwinell. Her mother died when she was nine years of age, after which time she lived with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Lucius Nye in Coventry until all came to make their home in Orleans in 1906. Miss Dwinell graduated from St. Johnsbury academy in 1903, and has taught in the public schools of Coventry and Orleans the greater part of the time since. She was a conscientious worker, with more courage and ambition than strength. This resulted in many serious illnesses which gradually undermined her vitality, until on December 8, she answered the final call to the far shore. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, of last week, Rev. R. A. Hamilton of Orleans, Rev. L. A. Edwards of Newport and Rev. A. S. Bole, her former pastor at Coventry, officiating. The interment was at Glover, beside her mother. She leaves to mourn her loss, her father, Dwight J. Dwinell of Montpelier, her aunt, Mrs. Irene Nye of Orleans, three brothers. Rolland D. of Lowell, Mass., Carl M. of Orleans, and Dean N. of Newport, and a wide, circle of devoted friends. The great profusion of flowers sent by friends far and near bore silent testimony of the love and esteem by which she was held by all who knew her. In early life she united with the Congregational church at Coventry and later took a letter to the Congregational church at Orleans. She was an earnest worker in the church, Sunday school, Ladies Aid society, Missionary society, Christian Endeavor society, and a loyal member of the choir. She was also a member of the W. C. T. U., Odd Girls, Book and Thimble club, an efficient officer and beloved member of the Order of the Eastern Star. These organizations will all miss her help as well as her cheery smile and sunny temperament. She was one whom to know was to respect, to know better was to admire and honor, and to know well was to love as a real friend, the memory of whose pure, sweet life has touched and inspired so many hearts to strive for higher ideals and nobler achievements."
