Their little two year old daughter, Clara, was drowned in a cistern, at Solon, last Friday. The mother had gone there with her smaller children on a visit. Little Clara while playing with the other children including those of the host, stepped upon a tilting board and was thrown into the cistern, below. The children told of the occurrence, and a rescue was immediately made, but it was too late. Every effort was made to resuscitate the little one, but without avail. Life was extinct. The father was notified, and he went at once to Solon. The remains of the little one were brought home the next evening, and the funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. Mardorf, last Sunday. The funeral was very large. The procession that wended its way to the cemetery included about a hundred vehicles. Little Clara was a bright and lovely child. A neighbor, who called at the home of Mr. Harms, the day before the little one went away, says that he was particularly attracted by her playful and cheerful disposition. The cistern where she met her death was supposed to have been safely covered. Undoubtedly the children in their play had thoughtlessly worked some of the boards loose. Mr. and Mrs. Harms have much sympathy in their bereavement.
