Clara Wirtz, daughter of Anna (Wagner) and Robert Wirtz, was born near Gilbertville, Iowa on September 24, 1914. She attended country school near Gilbertville. Read More	Clara Simon, 93, Hoven, SD, died Monday, April 7, 2008 at the Bowdle Nursing Home. Clara Wirtz, daughter of Anna (Wagner) and Robert Wirtz, was born near Gilbertville, Iowa on September 24, 1914. She attended country school near Gilbertville. At age 9, she moved with her family to a farm west of Bowdle. Two years later they moved to a farm north of Hoven. She then attended St. Anthony's Parochial School in Hoven through 8th grade. Following her schooling, she stayed at home and worked at John DeRouchey's home. Later she returned to Gilbertville with her family. She married Henry J. Simon at Gilbertville on October 3, 1933. The newlyweds moved to Hoven where they lived for one year. They then relocated to Watertown, SD. Following 1 ½ years there, they returned to Hoven. Clara kept very busy raising the family while Henry worked at his father's service station and sale barn, and also ran the Hoven Dairy and drove truck. Henry died April 26, 1985. Clara lived in Hoven until December 1, 2004 when she moved to the Bowdle Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Anthony's Church and Altar Society, as well as St. Mary's Society. She also belonged to the Church's Prayer Group and Koinonia. Clara also was a longtime member of the Hoven Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included embroidering and playing cards. When younger, she enjoyed working outdoors and gardening. Mrs. Simon is survived by 4 sons—Norman (Gail) Simon of Aberdeen, SD, James Simon of the Bowdle Nursing Home, Jack (Joyce) Simon of Polo, MO, and Dave (Lisa) Simon of Loup City, NE; 5 daughters—Janice Rausch of Huron, SD, Betty (Jerome) Hageman of Hoven, Gina (Darwin) Keltgen of Watertown, Marjean (Lelend) Stotz of Tolstoy, SD, and Mary Joe Mueller of Onalaska, WI; 2 sisters—Theresa (Cletus) Kramer of Independence, Iowa and Marie Seibel of Waterloo, Iowa; 45 grandchildren, 95 great grandchildren, and 50 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father on January 24, 1974, her mother on June 4, 1978, 1 infant son (Joe), 5 brothers (Nick, Herb, Ervin, Joe and Wilbert), two sisters (Leona Philips and Mildred Seibel), two sons-in-law (Duane Rausch and Jerry Mueller), and 1 granddaughter (Leann Keltgen). Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 12, 2008 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Hoven, with Father Lance Oser, celebrant. Burial will follow at St, Anthony's Church Cemetery in Hoven. Organist will be Alice Simon and St. Anthony's Church Choir will sing. Soloist will be Lexie Vogel. Offertory will be Karen Hageman-Snow, Linda Mernaugh, Lisa Sauer, Cindy Schlosser, and Haley Simon. Mass servers will be Kyle Arbach and great grandsons Jeff Hageman Garret Spindler. Lectors will be Jeannie Heim and Pam Holt and Eucharistic Ministers will be Peggy Goetz and Troy Rausch. Placing the Pall on the casket will be Kim Pelzel, Theresa Hunnel, Maelie Dockter, Karla Voller, Mary Ortmeier, and Katie Miller. Casketbearers will be Tim Rausch of Florence, MT, Mark Simon of Aberdeen, Tom Hageman of Hoven, Myron Keltgen of Watertown, Donnie Simon of Oklahoma City, OK, Barry Stotz of Bowdle, Joe Mueller of Madison, WI, and Shawn Simon of Sioux Falls, SD. Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements.
