Prevey, under whom Miss Toland began her career as a stenographer for the Social Welfare Society. "She never knew the meaning of hours." said Eula McEwan, a friend. After entering the Social Welfare Office, Miss Toland was soon made assistant executive secretary, then in 1918 became the first paid executive of the local Red Cross organization. She was in charge of relief work among the families of soldiers. Returning to Social Welfare Society in 1919, she was executive secretary until 1921, Mr. Prevey being on leave of absence. In 1922 Miss Toland was appointed assistant juvenile probation officer for the Lancaster County Court, holding that position until 1925 when she became a field worker for the State Child Welfare Bureau. In 1929 she returned to her old post as probation officer. She accepted the Geneva appointment in 1931 and was employed there until her last illness. Her work consisted of looking into homes connected with the girls. If a girl was sent to a new home, Miss Toland determined in the environment would be proper, visited the girl later to see how she was getting along. The social worker also went to the homes from which girls came to Geneva, finding out what was wrong. She visited girls who had been released or paroled. Miss Toland was a member of First Baptist Church and of the P.E.O. She had lived in Nebraska all her life. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. J. B. Alexander of Brock, Mrs. C. C. Miller of Johnson, and Blanche Toland of Kansas City; and a brother, George B. Toland of Los Angeles. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. Rev. Clifton C.
