Description	:	C.A. "Monty" Eikamp, age 93, of Huron, died Thursday, July 13, 2006, at StoneyBrook Suites in Huron. Claremont Eikamp was born Claremont A. Eliason, the youngest of seven children, on February 21, 1913, to Elias and Ella (Schager) [her FAG record] Eliason at Huron. SD. Eliason, the youngest of seven children, on February 21, 1913, to Elias and Ella (Schager) [her FAG record] Eliason at Huron. SD. When "Monty" was three years old his father left home and the children were placed in the Children's Home at Sioux Falls. A year later Monty was adopted by Al and Mary Eikamp who lived on a farm near Bancroft, SD. Monty graduated from Bancroft High School in 1931. He then attended college at the Agricultural School in Brookings for 2 years, after which he returned to the family farm where he lived and worked for the next several years. During this period of time his father died and Monty and his sister operated the farm together. He eventually sold his interest to his sister and he went into the gas business in De Smet in 1936. He later became manager of the Farmer's Union Co-op in De Smet for several years. On May 4, 1941, Monty married Bernice Jorgenson at De Smet, SD, where they lived until he entered the U.S. Army in 1943 during World War II. Following his medical discharge two months later they moved to Watertown where he began working for the Federal Meat Inspection Service. In 1968 they moved to Huron where Monty continued his work as a meat inspector until his retirement in 1980. He was a very active member of the American Lutheran Church, NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees), William Reaves American Legion Post #7 of Huron, and past member of the Kiwanis Club. He is survived by 1 son, Ron (Nikki) Eikamp of Pierre, SD; 2 grandchildren, Allen (Joyce) Lehmen, and Harriett (Darin) Baker; 4 great grandchildren, Arron Baker, Nathan Baker, Alexzandra Lehmen, and Brittanni Lehmen; and several nieces and nephews including Dennis (Dorothy) Weeks of Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his biological parents and adoptive parents; his wife, Bernice on October 6, 1992; 5 brothers; and 2 sisters Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements by Welter Funeral Home.
