He was born April 28, 1916, in rural Hodgeman County, the son of George and Rose Burgardt Burkhart. A lifetime resident of the Kinsley area, he was a retired farmer, rancher and dairyman. He was born April 28, 1916, in rural Hodgeman County, the son of George and Rose Burgardt Burkhart. A lifetime resident of the Kinsley area, he was a retired farmer, rancher and dairyman. He belonged to St. Nicholas Catholic Church, St. Edwards Knights of Columbus Council 2131, Bishop Hennessey 4th Degree Council 284, Dodge City Moose Lodge and served on the Kinsley Country Club board of directors. On Aug. 11, 1936, he married Alice Marie Gleason in Hodgeman County. She died Feb. 19, 1996. Survivors include: three sons, Larry, Cromwell, Conn., Mike, Cimarron, and Tim, Kinsley; four daughters, Judy Stegman, Kinsley, Vicki Jensen, Fort Collins, Colo., Diane Lix, Wright, and Alicia Ackerman, Springfield, Mo.; a brother, Harold, Kinsley; two sisters, Louise Werner, Kinsley, and Mary Ann Taylor, McCracken; 27 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son; a daughter; and two brothers. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Kinsley, with Fathers Robert Schremmer and Bernard Felix presiding. Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 5 pm Friday. Memorials may be sent to the St. Nicholas School Endowment Fund or to Edwards County Health Care Foundation, in care of the funeral home. Hutchinson News, 1/25/2007
