Despondent over continued ill health, and doubtless worried by reason of so many deaths in his family during recent months, Clarence Anson, aged 60, a dairyman of the city living at 1412 West Main street, committed suicide by hanging at about 7 o'clock this morning. It was not until after Mr. Anson had been called repeatedly for breakfast, and failed to respond, that the outbuildings on the place were searched. The body, then cold in death, was discovered by Mr. Anson's son and daughter, suspended, by a rope tied to a rafter of the com crib. The death of Mr. Anson marks a series of four deaths in his father's family, and the sixth of kinsmen to take place within the past few months. Alva Anson, the aged father of Mr. Anson, died at the Independence state hospital on June 22, 1910. On Jan. 6. of this year. Mr. Anson's younger sister, Miss lndependence, died in this city. On Jan. 21 Warren Anson, brother, died here. In another branch of the Anson family Sturgis Anson, a son of Henry Anson, and a first cousin of Alva Anson's children, died on Jan. 16. at Los Angeles. Cal. On Sept. 29. 1910, Horace Anson, of this city, a brother of Alva and Henry Anson, dropped dead at his home of heart disease, while walking across the room. Despondent for Past Few Weeks. Mr. Anson had been in failing health during recent years, and during past few weeks had been unusually downcast and despondent. Hardly more than a week ago the family moved from where they had been living, at S01 West Boone street, to the old Anson home place. The family had no intimation, however, that Mr. Anson was contemplating any such rash act, and the shock to the wife and children was most severe. Mr. Anson arose this morning as usual, and went to the barn about 7 oclock, apparently to do his chores. When breakfast was ready, and waiting, Mrs. Anson called her husband at about 8:30. Getting no response, and calling him again without any answer, Mr. Ansons son Calvin and daughter Marjorie went to the barn to see if any mishap had befallen their father. Finding nothing out of the way at the barn other outbuildings were visited, and in the corn crib the lifeless body of the father was found, at about 8:45. Had Jumped From Old Trunk. Mr. Anson had taken a stout rope, an inch and a half in diameter, and tied about a rafter. Then to it he had tied a smaller hemp rope, of about the size of a clothes line and placed the noose about his neck. Standing upon an old trunk that had been stored in the granary he jumped to his slow death by strangulation. As the body was cold when the son and daughter found it, it is presumed that Mr. Anson ended his life shortly after he left the house to do his chores. No Inquest Held. Coroner F. H. Boucher was notified of Mr. Anson's death and investigated the case. From all accounts despondency owing to ill health was the only cause for the act, and the coroner decided that no inquest was necessary. Dr. Boucher took charge of the personal effects found on Mr. Anson's body, which consisted of some papers, a bank book, and a small sum of money. Was Second Oldest Son. Clarence Anson was the second oldest son of Alva Anson and wife, and was born in Sandusky county, Ohio, June 20, 1850. The family moved to this county on Dec. 24. 1556. and Clarence Anson's home has been here practically ever since. On Nov. 23, 1888. in this city, Mr. Anson took as his wife Miss Melvina Hartwell, who survives him with two children, Calvin Hartwell and Marjorie. Mr. and Mrs. Anson lived in Denver from 1903 until 1909, and once returning to the city has been engaged in dairying. Aside from his immediate family Mr. Anson Is survived by four brothers and one sister. Monroe, of this city: Mrs. C. C.
