Arrangement by Lien Funeral Chapel Stickney, S.D. Obituary Clarence "Bud" Hemeyer was born to Henry and Ida (Schrank) Hemeyer on December 29, 1917, at Colome, South Dakota, in Tripp County. When he was 1 1/2 years old his father passed away. They then moved to Douglas County near Corsica, S.D., where he grew up. On February 13, 1942, he was inducted into the Army where he served in Europe with the 9th Armored Division. Clarence was captured in the Battle of the Bulge and was a prisoner of war for four months. On November 5, 1945, he was discharged. While serving in the Army he received the Bronze Star, Presidential Unit Citation and the Prisoner of War Medal. Clarence married Maxine Kenyon on November 15, 1943, in DeRidder, Louisiana. Born to this union were two daughters, Gwen (Mrs. Gerrit Norden) and Lila (Mrs. Larry Bohr), and three sons, Jerold, Stanley and Bert. After returning from the service, Clarence and Maxine lived in Mitchell for two years. In 1948 they moved to a farm near Mt. Vernon, S.D. In 1967 they moved to Stickney where he worked for Lien Furniture and Funeral Chapel and worked as a salesman for Newton Manufacturing, selling advertising. Clarence was active in baseball, playing in Mitchell, Ethan, Corsica and Stickney. He coached amateur and Legion baseball and was District 6 American legion baseball commissioner for several years. Clarence was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, American Legion, V.F.W., Disabled Veterans of America and Prisoners of War organizations. he served on church, county, township and city boards. Clarence is survived by his wife, Maxine; Gwen, and Gerrit Norden, Corsica; Lila and Larry Bohr, Corsica; Jerry and Julie Hemeyer, Gregory; Stanley, Rapid City; and Bert, Chamberlain; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Walt, Stickney, and sister, Lena Jacobs, Corsica. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
