Military honors were by American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton. Clarence Burkhart attended schools in Holly Springs, Castana and Mapleton. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany and France during World War II. He married Delores Marsh on August 21, 1944, in Onawa, Iowa. He was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton. He enjoyed family get togethers, dancing, watching sports on TV and, most of all, making candy and cookies because he knew his family looked forward to all the goodies. He is survived by his wife of 60 years; two daughters; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Francis, and two sisters, Betty Jacoby and Twila Oregon. Arrangements were by Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
