The organist was Mrs. Sybil Kelley. Flower attendants were Mrs. Jean VanErsvelde and Mrs. Barbara Schwiebert. Mr. Ecklund died Saturday, April 20, 1985, in the Brookhaven Nursing Home, Brooklyn. Rev. Raymond D. Moore, pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, officiated. Ecklund, son of Oscar F. and Hulda Bowman Ecklund, was born in Brooklyn on Sept. 16, 1896. He received his education in the Brooklyn Schools graduating from high school in 1916. He then attended the Capital Commercial City College in Des Moines. He served with the US Army during World War I. He then was in a partnership in a hardware store known as Grieve and Ecklund Hardware. Later he became an employee of the Poweshiek County Savings Bank where he was employed for over 30 years resigning May 31, 1974 as a vice-president. He was elected as an inactive vice-president June 1, 1974 and remained on the board until January 1976. He was united in marriage to Helen Latta on April 27, 1923, in Brooklyn. Mr. Ecklund was a life-long resident of Brooklyn. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church; a charter member of Francis Gallagher American Legion Post No. 294; a member for over 50 years of Corinthian Lodge No. 174 AF and AM; original member of the Brooklyn Municipal Utilities Board; a member of Iowa Bankers Association; and at one time served on the Brooklyn City Council and Fire Department. Mr. Ecklund is survived by his wife, Helen; one son, Edwin of Loveland, Colo.; one daughter, Grace, Mrs. Robert Noonan of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
