Description	:	YAKIMA - Clarence David Franklund, 94, passed away June 28, 2007, at his home in Yakima, Washington. He was born March 23, 1913, in McLean County, North Dakota to Erick and Anna (Brostrom) Franklund. He grew up on his parent's homestead near the Missouri River, one of 10 brothers and sisters. He was born March 23, 1913, in McLean County, North Dakota to Erick and Anna (Brostrom) Franklund. He grew up on his parent's homestead near the Missouri River, one of 10 brothers and sisters. He married Gladys E. Halseth in Minot, ND on October 10, 1936, and farmed at Yanktony for 10 years. During the 1930's, Clarence had helped some CCC boys build Yanktony Dam and excavate the lake. After their marriage, they were able to buy the section of land that included the dam and the lake. In 1946, they came to Yakima to visit and decided to stay. In Yakima, Clarence learned carpentry working at Aves Millwork and Sears Lumber, and then he began building homes in 1952. He operated the "House of Plywood" on South First Street for a few years, and continued his business, "FRANKLUND HOMES", developing several areas and building throughout the valley until he was in his eighties. He was a farmer at heart, growing wheat and corn and raising cattle near his home throughout his lifetime. His wife of nearly 64 years passed away in May 2000 after suffering with Alzheimer's disease for many years. He took loving care of her at home during most of her illness and then at Living Care Center. Clarence is survived by five children: Terry (Dianne) Franklund, Karen Franklund, Janis (Terry) Kleppin, David (Charlene) Franklund all of Yakima, Wendy Franklund (Jake) Miller of Spokane, WA, thirteen grandchlildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one sister, Florence McDaniel of Marysville, WA, two brothers, Vernon (Margie) Franklund of Mandan, ND and Lawrence (Ruth) Franklund of Wilton, ND and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, his parents Erick and Anna Franklund, his three brothers, Victor, Arthur, and Oscar, and three sisters, Mabel, Martha, and Edith. Memorials may be made to the Ahtanum Valley Museum of which Clarence was a founding member. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday July 2 at Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 3, 2007 at West Hills Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery.
