By this time he was actively engaged in farming. On May 23, 1942, he was united in marriage to Elaine Mae Jensen, daughter of Walter and Carrie JEnsen. Elaine had one brother, Bernard, and two sisters, Thelma and Lois. Bernard and Thelma have passed away, but Loid lives in Ames with her family. Clarence and Elaine's family became complete with the birth of three sons: Gary, born on October 7, 1943, Gale, September 20, 1945, and Roy, September 19, 1947. Clarence continued farming and his sons helped him as they became old enough. They were all active in 4-H as well as school and church activities. As the boys got old enough to take over some of the farming, Clarence and Elaine enjoyed traveling with their camper and were members of the Audubon County Travelers. They spent many winters in Texas. After moving to town, Clarence became active in the Lions Club. Elaine especially enjoyed Friday night Bingo. In November 2003, due to ill health, they became residents of the Exira Care Center. Clarence passed away January 10, 2004, at 85 years old. Elaine continues to reside at the Care Center."
