Address: Colorado Springs, Colorado ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ WHO'S WHO IN ASPEN Although he has lived in Aspen but a little over a year, Clarence Rader has come to be known as one of our foremost citizens and whenever there is any public enterprise that needs backing of some job to be done for the betterment of the community he is always ready to do his part. Clarence was born at Council Grove Kan., July 12, 1901. In 1905 he moved with his family to Lamont, Okla., and lived there until he reached young manhood. He attended the schools at Lamont and after graduating he attended the Fairmont University at Wichita, Kan., now known as Wichita University. Later, Mr. Rader attended the Coyne Trade and Engineering school. Few people get a start towards an engineering career as early as did Clarence Rader. His first electrical job began when he was 12 years old. At that time he was firing the boiler in the municipal electrical plant at Lamont. From that time on he spent a good share of his time working and playing with things electrical. He worked his way through school as a motion picture operator. After finishing college, Mr. Rader's first job was with the Kansas Gas and Power Company in the Madison oil fields. Later he moved to Eldorado where he worked for the Kansas Gas and Electric Company. A few years later he was employed in western Kansas by the Dwight Chapin Construction Company. With the organization of the Mountain Utilities Corporation in 1933 Mr. Rader came to Colorado, being first stationed at Palmer Lake. he is the second oldest employee with the corporation today in number of years of service. At Palmer Lake, Mr. Rader was a member of the fire department, the city council, and was city clerk for a while. Since coming to Aspen he has affiliated himself with the Aspen Lions Club and is now serving his second term as secretary of that organization. Clarence Rader was first married in 1927 and has one daughter, Alberta, from this marriage. He was married in 1934 at Palmer lake to Edith Dalton, who also has a daughter, Gwendolyn, by a former marriage. Mr. Rader moved to Aspen in February 1940, and Mrs. Rader and their two daughters came to Aspen April 1, 1940, and they have made their home here since that time. When Clarence Rader came to Aspen the first time in 1937 he had never before been on the western slope of Colorado. when he came back Feb. 25, 1940 as manager of the Mountain Utilities office and plant here he was jubilant to be returned to this country to which he became attached on his first visit. He says anyone would have a hard time getting him back to the plains country now since he has become acquainted with the grandeur and wonderful climate of the Rockies.
