Read More	* IN LOVING MEMORY OF * Clarence James Claassen was born on Wednesday; March 30, 1921 in Holland; Grundy County, Iowa. He was the son of: Dick and Frannie (Andreessen) Claassen. Clarence attended country school in rural Holland, Iowa. After school Clarence started working at Rath Packing. On Saturday; January 5, 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving his country during World War II. On Thursday; February 19, 1948, Clarence was united in marriage to Ruth Meester at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church rural Holland, Iowa. After their marriage he started farming in Lincoln Township where he farmed for 61 years before retiring, they remained on the farm till moving to Grundy Center; Grundy County, Iowa in 2007. After retiring he loved to go and have coffee with his friends in Dike, Holland and Grundy Center, Iowa. Clarence was a member of Reformed Church of Stout. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Clarence James Claassen, age 88, passed away on Thursday; April 9, 2009 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center while under the care of the Cedar Valley Hospice. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife: Ruth of Grundy Center, Iowa. His children: John (Nancy) Claassen of Oxford; Johnson County, Iowa. Janet (Bill) Aswegan of Grundy Center, Iowa. His five grandchildren: Seth Aswegan, AJ(Amanda) Aswegan of Grundy Center, Iowa. Staci Haupt of Wellsburg; Grundy County, Iowa. Katie Claassen of Iowa City; Johnson County, Iowa and Brian Claassen of Cedar Falls; Black Hawk County, Iowa. His four great- grandchildren: Ethan, Andrew , Elleni Aswegan and Addison Claassen. His sister: DeLoris Eilers of Holland, Iowa. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son: Dennis; two sisters: Laurayne Meyer and Darlyne Larsen. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday; April 17, 2009 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday; April 18, 2009 at the Reformed Church of Stout in Stout, Iowa with Pastor David Vander Leest officiating. Private interment will be at the Stout Cemetery in Stout; Grundy County, Iowa. Memorials in Clarence's honor may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Reformed Church of Stout in Stout Iowa.
