Description	:	Clarence James "Jim" Culler Jr., 91, a long time resident of Talkeetna, Alaska, passed away on Feb. 15, 2018, at his son's home in Mount Vernon, Wash. Jim was born on Sept. 12, 1926, in Moscow, Idaho, to Clarence Senior and Cecelia Clara (Broderick) Culler. During high school he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Read More	Clarence James "Jim" Culler Jr., 91, a long time resident of Talkeetna, Alaska, passed away on Feb. 15, 2018, at his son's home in Mount Vernon, Wash. Jim was born on Sept. 12, 1926, in Moscow, Idaho, to Clarence Senior and Cecelia Clara (Broderick) Culler. During high school he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge he married Marilyn Maxine St. Mary of Wapato, Wash., on Dec. 27, 1951. Together they had six children. Jim continued his education earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1953, and using that skill to teach high school math. He then began a long career (32 years) as an Industrial Engineer for Boeing Aviation. He was a member of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA). In 1989, he retired and moved to Talkeetna. Throughout his life Jim loved the outdoors, where he hiked, hunted and fished. Twice he summited Mount Rainier at age 60. These same pursuits followed him to Talkeetna. He raised sled dogs, belonging to the Montana Creek Dog Mushers Club and the Eastside Steelhead Club. He tied his own flies for fly-fishing. Jim was a devout Catholic. He served at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Talkeetna. He participated in everything from maintenance to Lay Presider. Jim helped make the building earthquake safe and built and installed the large cross on the building. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; his wife, Marilyn, in 1982; and a great-granddaughter in 2016. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Cathy and Dave Pinick and their sons, Brian and Kevin of Roy Wash.; daughter, Terri Bancroft and son Gray of Anchorage; sons, Jimmy Culler and son Jameson of Arlington, Wash., Paul Culler and sons Bradley and Cody of Marysville, Wash., Chris Culler and wife Christine Nidd, and Chuck and Anita Culler and their daughter Chalauna of North Pole, Alaska. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at 10 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. Rites of Committal will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens, Bellevue on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Anchorage. Friends and family can leave notes and sign an online registry at www.kernfuneralhome.com. Kern Funeral Home is making all arrangements.
