Description	:	Clarence Sammons, 96, of Creston died Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at EveryStep Greater Regional Hospice House in Creston. Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Mary O’Riley will officiate the service. Burial will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. service time on Saturday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Creston Area Food Pantry. Online condolences can be made at www.powersfh.com. Clarence Lyle Sammons, son of Ernest and Etha Manatrey Sammons, was born January 28, 1923, at Cromwell, Iowa. He attended Cromwell Schools and was graduated in 1940. On February 18, 1944, he married Thelma V. Thomas, daughter of Raybourn and Edith Thomas of Kent, Iowa. Clarence and Thelma were married nearly 73 years. To this union were born, Gayle Sammons, wife Linda, of Diagonal; Carol Evans, husband Fred of San Antonio, TX; Sharon Wiley, husband Bill, of Ozark, MO; and Claudine Sammons, of Creston; 7 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Clarence and Thelma began their marriage on a farm Southwest of Cromwell in Adams County. In 1945 they moved to Crestview farm, south of Creston where they farmed for over 75 years. He was descended from Iowa farmers who helped settle the new state beginning in 1856. He milked cows, raised purebred Angus cattle and Hampshire hogs. He served as a 4H leader and a country Schools Supervisor. His 4 children participated in 4H and raised and showed cattle and hogs. His great grandchildren enjoyed visiting the farm, especially the animals and machinery. Clarence was proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
