Read More	RICE BOY DROWNS NEAR RITZVILLE CLARENCE HAMILTON WITH ERNEST HOPPE LOSES LIFE IN CRAB CREEK Funeral Held in Colville - Brother Drowned 10 Years Ago this Month In Baughman Slough Rice, Wash., July 24 -- (Special from Correspondent) -- The news of the drowning of Clarence Hamilton was a shock to his many friends here. He was employed in harvest by Adam Webber who lives about fifteen miles from Ritzville. Sunday afternoon, July 21, the boys went in bathing in Crab Creek. The place was apparently shallow but Clarence stepped in a hole which was twenty feet deep. He called for help and Ernest Hoppe, who was also bathing , tried to rescue him but both boys went under and never returned to the top of the water. Help was immediately summoned, but the place was so deep that fifteen or twenty minutes elapsed before they succeed in diving to the bottom for the boys, and all efforts to revive them failed. Mr. Hamilton, father of the boy, received a telegram Monday morning and Mr. Allen took Mr. Hamilton at once to Ritzville, where the body of Clarence Hamilton was prepared for burial, shipped to Colville, and brought to Rice by Undertaker McCord. The funeral services were conducted at the residence by Rev. Kline of Colville. Interment as in the Rice cemetery. Clarence Hamilton was born May 1898, in Nebraska. he came when four years of age to Rice where he has since resided. He received his education in the Daisy schools, and last winter he and Ernest Hoppe, the boy companion who lost his life with Clarence, attended Northwestern business college in Spokane, but since finishing their coursed the boys had resided with the respective parents. Yong Hamilton was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He leaves the father and mother and a sister Mrs. Lester Clinton, AN older brother Otis Hamilton was drowned in Baughman's slough near Rice, ten years ago this month.
