Description	:	It is with great sorrow that we note the passing of Clarence M. Hamilton, pioneer citizen of Clarke County, Iowa. He was born 1 April 1854 in New York State, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dorda Funderburk of Des Moines, Iowa 15 December 1930, at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 15 days. At the age of 21 years he settled in Clarke County, Iowa between Woodburn and Bethel Chapel Church. In 1879, he was united in marriage to Jane Porterfield of Clarke County. To this union were born eleven children, four having died... Read More	It is with great sorrow that we note the passing of Clarence M. Hamilton, pioneer citizen of Clarke County, Iowa. He was born 1 April 1854 in New York State, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dorda Funderburk of Des Moines, Iowa 15 December 1930, at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 15 days. At the age of 21 years he settled in Clarke County, Iowa between Woodburn and Bethel Chapel Church. In 1879, he was united in marriage to Jane Porterfield of Clarke County. To this union were born eleven children, four having died in infancy. After their marriage they settled near what is now Jay, Iowa. In 1888 Mr. Hamilton united with the Presbyterian Church in Medora, Warren County, Iowa. In later years he changed his membership from there to Bethel Chapel where he remained a faithful member until he answered the Master's call. Mr. Hamilton had been in very poor health for several years. He was known as a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather, a good neighbor, always ready and willing to help those around him in sickness and time of need. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Jane, as he always spoke of her by that name, six children, Will, Corda Funderburk, Pearle Shaver, and Zola Copeland, all of Des Moines, Glenn of Chariton, and Iva Calaway of New Virginia. One son, Verne of Woodburn, preceded his father in death two years ago. There are twenty grandchildren besides other relatives, many neighbors and friends. Funeral services were conducted at Bethel Chapel Wednesday afternoon, 17 December at 2:30. Burial in Bethel Chapel cemetery beside his mother. This community extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved loved ones.
