Read More	Clarence Marcelle Williams Obituary Clarence 'Marcelle' Williams FAITH - Clarence "Marcelle" Williams, 92, of Faith, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury. Marcelle was born on March 22, 1921, in Rowan County, a son of the late Clarence R. and Daisy Overcash Williams. He attended Faith School and Granite Quarry High School and General Motors Institute. Marcelle worked for Cardell Carter's Pontiac Buick and retired from Jim Widenhouse Pontiac & Buick. Mr. Williams was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was charter member of Faith American Legion Post 327, where he served as Post, District, Division and State Commander. The ROTC rifle range at East Rowan High is named for Marcelle because he played a pivotal role in establishing the ROTC program in Rowan County. Marcelle was named to the Veterans Service Committee and served on that committee for decades. Marcelle constantly fought for veterans through the American Legion, the VA Hospital in Salisbury and the NC Veterans Commission. In 1967, Gov. Dan Moore appointed him to lead the statewide observance of Veterans Day. In 1968-69, he served as State Commander of the American Legion, spending a year criss-crossing North Carolina in his official duties. He was named to the American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame having been active in the Rowan County American Legion Baseball Program. Marcelle was also a driving force behind establishment of the N.C. Veterans Home in Building 10 on the Hefner VA Medical Center campus and the addition of the National Cemetery Annex. Marcelle was instrumental in the founding of the Faith 4th of July Celebration and was named Grand Marshall of the Parade in 2012. He was a life-member of Faith Lutheran Church, a member of the Barger Moose Sunday School Class, served on the church council, was a past president of Lutheran Brotherhood, choir member, served on the original building committee for the church and on the Family Life Center Committee and various other committees and boards. Marcelle was a life member of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge 657, member of 40/8, and a member of the Rowan County Shrine Club. He served for over two decades on the Rowan County Board of Education and also served as Chairman. He was instrumental with the building of the school bus garage on the Old Concord Road, which was named the C. Marcelle Williams Transportation Complex in his honor. In addition to his parents, Marcelle was preceded in death by his wife, Lottie "Binkie" Williams, four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include son Timothy Rae Williams and wife Becky of Faith; daughters Delores Williams Eller and husband Wayne of Concord, Ginger Williams Smith and husband Gary of Faith; brother Darrell Brown Williams of Gastonia; grandchildren Chris Eller and wife Stephanie, Shawn Eller and wife Amanda, Wendy E. Overcash and husband Eric, Justin Williams, Ryan Smith, Holly W. Moody and husband CJ, Brandon Smith and Colby Smith; great-grandchildren Jake and Allison Eller, Zeke Eller and Brooks Moody; numerous nieces and nephews; and friend and companion Garnell Smith. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 1 in the Faith Lutheran Family Life Center. Services: Funeral Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 2 at Faith Lutheran Church by Rev. Randy Conley, pastor.
