Description	:	Abilene Chronicle Sept. 1936 Clarence Marshall Garten Sr. was born at Solomon, Kan., May 20, 1897, and departed this life at his home near Abilene, Kan., Sept. 1st, 1936, at the age of 39 years, three months and ten days. He was the oldest child of a family of seven sons and five daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Garten. Two infant sisters preceded him in death. He was the oldest child of a family of seven sons and five daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Garten. Two infant sisters preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Miss Marie Sprinkle, Nov. 26, 1925, and to this happy union was born two sons, Clarence Marshall Jr. and Frank Irwin. Clarence attended Sand Springs school and was a good student. Here he grew to manhood. Being the oldest of the family he was ever at the right hand of his father and mother's comfront. After finishing school he was associated with his father in the truck farming business. Clarence was ever a good citzen. Always considerate of his friends and loved ones. And many a crisis was eased by his smiling face and understanding. No matter how busy he was, he was ever ready to help someone in need. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind and loving husband, father and son. In the Legion work he was ready to do and share his part, always ready to help in sickness or trouble of any kind. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, two sons, Clarence Jr., age 10, and Frank Irwin, age 9, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Garten; six brothers, Ward, of Abilene; Harry of Enterprise, Kan.; Lawrence, of Wellington; Ray, Sylvan and Joe of the home. Three sisters Mrs. Ethel Withworth, Mrs. Pearl Zey, of Abilene and Mrs. Dee Long of Republic City, Neb. many other relatives and a host of friends. Interment was made in the Abilene Cemetery.
